A guide to staying healthy while traveling

Keys to staying healthy before and during travel

BEFORE

  • Start drinking more water than normal at least a week before the trip: flying dehydrates you!

  • Take vitamin C

  • Try to get extra sleep

DURING

  • Stay hydrated! This is the most important (especially if you are traveling somewhere with an elevation change). pick up large filtered water jars or bottles and use it to fill up your smaller bottles to carry around with you

  • Let your body rest / sleep when it needs to. If that’s throughout the entire flight, go for it. If you need to take a mid day nap instead of explore, do it. It’ll give you more energy for when you are out AND keep your immune system running

  • Bring some go-to medicine with you. I’ve also had really positive experiences going to different pharmacies around the world!

  • Be aware of what you eat. Of course try new foods and have fun with it, but trust your gut (literally) on what to consume and what not to. If you do eat something that doesn’t settle well, water water water.

  • If you DO get sick, try to make the most of it. Maybe order pho from a restaurant you’ve heard about (so you’re still able to experience some of the restaurants there in theory). Maybe go to the local pharmacy (I’ve had great experiences with this). Maybe use the opportunity to truly rest and watch movies and read without the pressures that might pop up back home.

Happy Traveling and stay healthy!
